About this product

Half a day on material behaviour. Which materials cut clean, which ones fight you, which ones must never go in the machine at all.

This is the session that saves the consumables budget. Most wasted stock in a teaching lab is not student error — it is the wrong material bought because it looked the same as the right one.

What the half day covers

  • Cast versus extruded acrylic: why one engraves frosted white and the other comes out grey
  • Plywood and MDF grades, and how the glue line decides your cut quality
  • TroLase and other engraving laminates — layer colours, depth, and how to spec a sheet
  • Leather, felt, cork, paper and card — power, speed and the smell problem
  • Anodised aluminium, coated metals, and marking compounds for bare steel
  • Glass, stone and ceramic: what is really happening, and why the finish varies
  • The refusal list. PVC and vinyl release chlorine gas — they destroy the machine and harm the operator. Polycarbonate, ABS, fibreglass and anything you cannot identify stay out too. We cover how to check a sheet before a student puts it on the bed.

Who it is for

Whoever signs the purchase order for lab stock, plus the staff supervising the machine. Sending both together is the point — the session only pays for itself if the buyer and the user hear the same thing.

Booking

Included in the quotation when you buy a Trotec laser from us for a teaching lab. Booked on its own otherwise — tell us your machine and group size and we will quote it.
