What sublimation does, and what it will not do

The ink turns to gas under heat and bonds into the surface, so the design cannot crack, peel or wash out, and there is nothing to feel with a fingertip. It works on polyester fabric and on polymer-coated hard items — mugs, tumblers, phone cases, mouse mats, aluminium photo panels, name badges, medals and awards.

It does not work on 100% cotton, and it cannot print white, so it does not work on dark garments either. For those, use heat transfer paper or flex film. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a disappointment.

A working setup is four things

Printer, ink, paper and a heat press. Miss one and nothing comes out. We quote the whole set together so day one works — and the paper is matched to the ink, because a mismatched pair is the usual cause of a transfer that will not release cleanly.
